Sanitary Sewer System Evaluation Surveys
Asset Mapping

Accurate, up-to-date sewer system mapping is critical for optimum performance of a sanitary sewer system. Underground Consulting can build GIS asset maps from scratch or update existing  maps.   Our crews can take GPS readings at sub-meter accuracy levels for manholes, and this data can then be integrated with inspection data to create maps. For a municipality that has not implemented a GIS system to map and manage its sanitary sewer system, this added value offers them a chance to begin to take advantage of this technology. For clients with existing GIS systems, we can deliver the data in the way that best fits their needs.

Manhole Inspection & Assessment

Routine manhole assessment is a critical element of any sanitary sewer evaluation or maintenance program.  During a manhole inspection, Underground Consulting crews take a complete inventory of each manhole including construction materials, conditions, depth, debris, along with infiltration/inflow and structural defect documentation. All inspection data is recorded electronically in the field using GIS mapping applications for easy integration into Client GIS and Asset Management systems.  HD video or photos can also be used to document manhole conditions.

Smoke Testing

Smoke Testing is a fast and cost-effective method for locating and quantifying sanitary sewer infiltration and inflow on both public and private lines. Non-toxic smoke is introduced into the sanitary sewer systems using high-volume blowers to locate potential sources of infiltration and inflow.  Using GIS-based field data collection tools, Underground Consulting crews then pinpoint I&I sources using high-accuracy GPS and provide photographic documentation that can be used during repair & rehabilitation activities.

Acoustic Assessment/SL-RAT

Acoustic pipeline assessment utilizes patented acoustic technology to provide real-time blockage assessments in 6"-12" gravity sewer lines.  Sewer system blockages can be quickly and efficiently located so that system owners can better allocate their pipe cleaning and CCTV inspection resources.  A single crew can assess 10,000' to 20,000' feet of gravity main per day, making Acoustic Assessment a very cost-effective method for sewer system investigation.

Sewer Lateral CCTV Inspection

A sewer line problem can cost thousands to repair, not to mention the damage that a sewer back up can cause on the inside of your home.  The sewer line is not visible during a standard home inspection, so they cannot tell you if there is a failure or blockage inside of the sewer line.  This is why it is important to have our Sewer Line Evaluation completed prior to purchasing your new home.  A camera will be inserted into the sewer line and will uncover tree root intrusions, line failures and breaks, clogs, and sags.

Since we do not perform any type of pipe repair or service, we can provide a truly un-biased evaluation of your sewer service lateral.  Our inspector will document the problem with pictures and verbiage in the report. We will also notate the approximate footage of the problem from the cleanout area. A plumbing contractor will then need to be consulted to determine the next steps. Our service only includes inspection, an additional repair contractor would be needed in the event of a problem inside of the pipe.
